A POPULAR Thai takeaway business has expanded to a store premises to offer customers the authentic street food culture.

Owners behind May Thai Treats officially opened their new takeaway on Anchor Road, Barrow yesterday, Friday, May 27 after operating from their family home on Knox street for the past six years.

The Family-owned business is run my husband and wife Lawrence and May Torkington who set up the business from their home when May use to cook for her friends and family in Thailand after they told her she should turn this into a business as the people would love it and she would make lots of money.

May who moved from Thailand to Barrow 20 years ago later marrying her husband, Laurence in 2004 have both enjoyed bringing the Thai culture to the residents of Barrow.

Laurence said: “We opened at 11am yesterday and a few people came in and were excited to try the food, we’ve had some great feedback and everyone has been really friendly.

“We have been operating from home for the past six years but have been really popular so decided to get a separate space and opened the store, it’s been really progressive so more people can come in when they want, place an order and take it away.

“We do have a couple of chairs so people can sit in and enjoy but May wanted to do more of a street food style, which is a cultural thing and traditional to the Thailand region. We are still available on Barrow Eats for delivery or people can phone the store for delivery too.”
