A MAN has been arrested in connection with an alleged rape that took place in Carlisle's city centre on May 18. 

Police are appealing for information or witnesses following the report of rape in the area of the West Walls car park, off the Victoria Viaduct area of Carlisle city centre on Wednesday May 18 before 6pm.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and been released on police bail.

Police have said the female is currently being supported by specially trained officers.

A spokesperson from Cumbria Constabulary said: "Anyone who has seen anything suspicious in this area of the city centre at about this time or in the surrounding area, is asked to contact police."
