THE owners of a Lake District hotel crowned the best luxury hotel in the UK have said the accolade has given them a ‘huge boost’ ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer period.

Cedar Manor in Windermere won across three separate categories in the 2022 Travellers’ Choice® Best of the Best Awards for Hotels, which highlights travellers’ favourite hotels worldwide.

It came first in the UK and 10th in Europe for luxury, second in the UK and 10th in Europe for the most romantic hotels and third in the UK and 15th in Europe for small stays.

“We’ve done everything we can to look after our guests over the last two years and before that we’ve worked very hard to think about what guests need and I think that’s what gets noticed really,” said Jonathan Kaye, who has run the hotel with wife Caroline for 15-years.

“And we’ve done the same with our rooms, when we’re refurbing, we think what can we do to make the guests’ life easier?

“And they’ve commented accordingly, we’ve had some amazing feedback.

“We get some really lovely guests and it’s been a huge boost.”

The couple are now looking towards a busy summer season.

“I think it’s going to be really busy, we’ve got a lot of people coming who couldn’t travel last year and we’ve got the international business back as well, there’s a steady trickle,” said Mr Kaye.

“We’re seeing the steady recovery of the international market which is great.

“I think it’s going to be a good steady year.

“After the last couple of years, we need it to be a bit more normal.”

Mr Kaye also praised other sectors of the tourism industry in Cumbria for their role in giving visitors a ‘great experience’.

“It’s not just about us as a hotel, it’s about the whole national park, the restaurants, the attractions, everybody plays their part,” he said.

“By them doing all their jobs brilliantly it gives guests a great overall feeling and experience.

“It’s a team effort.”
