A NEW £3m Home Bargains store in Workington, will be officially opened this weekend.

Home Bargains is creating 69 new jobs in the local community with its store in Workington.

In total, the store will employ 70 team members, with the store manager transferring from another local store.

It will also be donating £2,000 to local charity, Bee Unique which embraces, educates and entertains local people who have been diagnosed with autism.

Dave Parsons and Nadia Shaw, both founders and trustees at Bee Unique said: “We are delighted to receive this generous donation. This will help us to support more local families, with our programme of inclusive, local events.” The new Workington store will join over 575 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

The new store will open at 8.00am on Saturday, May 7.

Kerry, the new Workington store manager who has previously worked for both Iceland and Poundland in Whitehaven, said: “We are thrilled to be opening a new Home Bargains store in Workington, we know it will be a fantastic edition to this town!”

The 19849sq. ft store, which formerly housed Comet will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

Kerry added: “Workington will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”
