A FAMILY-RUN cafe and B&B, in Longtown has been listed for sale.

According to the Businesses for Sale website, The Sycamore Tree has an asking price of £360,000.

The licensed cafe currently possesses an 'excellent' 4.5 star TripAdvisor rating.

John Fothergill, 66, orginally from Yorkshire, has owned the Carlisle business for 16 years but, unfortunately is looking to sell the premise due to age and ill-health.

"I'd like to see it carry on as a cafe, after all the work I've put into it over the years, but it's entirely up to the buyer what they want to do with it," he said.

The business boasts 32 restaurant covers alongside the successful B&B business with its AA 4-star en-suite double and family guest rooms.

A spokesperson for the listing said: "It's a fantastic opportunity to acquire TripAdvisor highly rated eatery offering fresh and varied menu range from charming and superbly fitted 32-cover corner-sited character premises with excellent year-round regular and passing trade on main road through picturesque riverside tourist town."

"Sensibly priced for genuine retirement sale"

"There's nothing to stop anyone opening up in the evenings and operating outside catering services, of which we already get many requests," John said.

The cafe's specials are extremely popular amongst patrons, such as the Sunday lunch, takeaways and the Wednesday two-course special day which is always 'choc-a-bloc'.

"It's still got a lot of potential, it wants a young person at the helm now to give it that boost and take it on," he said.

John said there has been some interest in the premise so far.
