A 19TH century hotel in Carlisle is back up for sale after an initial bid fell through.

The Pinegrove Hotel, on London Road, has been re-listed with an asking price of £750,000 and boasts 25 ensuite bedrooms, alongside a bar and restaurant with space for 60 covers.

The current owners are brother and sister, Chris and Sophie Middleton, who acquired the business after their dad passed away in 2019.

"Ideally we want to sell it as a hotel because we've had staff working here for over 20 years, so we want to keep it going so they can continue to work here," Chris said.

"And obviously, my dad built it up, it would be a shame to see a developer take it over.

"Bear in mind, it's been in my family for the majority of my life, so there's a sentimental aspect to it as well that it goes to the right hands," he said.

A spokesperson from Fleurets, the company holding the listing, said: "The main hotel building was built in 1877 and many of its original features such as the tiled entrance hall and ornate cornices remain, including the beautiful stained glass window on the first floor landing."

The letting trade is a mixed of bed and breakfast, commercial, tourist and farmer trade, with the property also promoting a detached 2 storey building in the garden for an owner's accommodation.

"In 2019 steps were taken to modernise the business, putting bookings on-line which had previously been restricted.

"This has led to an increase in turnover.

"The bar is open to non-residents. The function room is used by the local community for weddings, funerals and parties.

"The meeting room and function room are used to generate commercial trade from businesses wanting conference facilities or to run training courses," the spokesperson said.

The hotel's location in Carlisle is an ideal spot for visiting the Lake District, travelling from England to Scotland, Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle Cathedral, Talkin Tarn Country Park and Water Tree Nature Reserve, to name a small few.
