KFC have announced plans to open a new branch in Carlisle.

The fried chicken chain has listed hundreds of sites on its website where they want to open new sites all over the UK - with plans for more full-size restaurants and drive-thrus.

On the KFC website, the fast food giant says: “We’re on the lookout for over 500 sites.”

The new city branch is set to cover the northern section of Carlisle, with a south-based premise already in circulation.

According to the company, drive-thru sites are its most popular type and can be fit into vacant sites of more than 0.3 acres. Existing building conversions will also be considered.

The news comes a month after it was announced that the North West of England had been declared the winner of the KFC 'Gravy Race'. Members of the chain's 'Colonel's Club' found out on Christmas Eve that almost 700,000 pots of gravy were guzzled in the area.

There is already one KFC branch in the city, located at the former Harraby Green Service Station on London Road. The company have announced that they are planning to relocate the restaurant to another area of the city.
