A NORTH Cumbrian pub has been chosen for the 15th year in a row as one of the best pubs and breweries in Britain

The Spinners Arms in Cummersdale is in the Good Beer Guide for the 15th successive year.

Out of 47,000 pubs and other drinks outlets across the UK, the national guide selects the best 4,500 every year.

The Spinners Arms is one of the most featured in the country, having been included again in the 2022 Good Beer Guide.

It is a particularly special achievement as the village pub is only small.

But what helps them stay in the guide year after year is that Spinners Arms owners Alain and Alison Davis set up a microbrewery there eight years ago.

they have since moved the operations of Carlisle Brewing Company to Kingstown, Carlisle, and the Spinners is the ‘tap’ for their own award-winning beers.

This is a real success given that it is estimated that more than a quarter of all the pubs ever featured in the Good Beer Guide have since closed.

Alison said: “We're really proud to still be in the Spinners, especially considering the problems with Covid over the last 18 months.

“We've worked hard to maintain the quality of the beer we sell. We're obviously very proud that we set up Carlisle Brewing Co on site, that we managed to expand, moving to Kingstown for production in 2015, and the Spinners is now our brewery tap.

“We couldn't have done it without the support of a lot of people - our regulars, suppliers, brewery customers, staff and we'd like to thank all of them.”

As well as having regular favourites Spun Gold and Citadel on tap, plus rotating beers like Porter, Flaxen, Irresponsible Hopping and La'al Clarty Jewkle, Carlisle Brewing Co also supplies other pubs, with bottles being sold in many shops as well.

During lockdowns, Alain and Alison operated a Beer in a Box scheme, where they made home deliveries across the county.

The Good Beer Guide is the biggest book of pubs and breweries in Britain, and is run by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
