AN artist is crowdfunding to achieve his goal of publishing a creative book.

John Hall, of Ulverston, has been working on the book for a number of years.

It began when he saw a record sleeve he loved in a shop in Barrow. It was a collage, and he loved the skill and imagination which had gone into it.

That was the beginning of 'I'll Be There', his 48-page labour of love for nerds and vinyl-junkies alike.

He said: "The collection is for anyone who has ever loved a record.

"I saw that first piece and thought: 'there's genuine affection here'. I could tell that someone had loved this and really put time into it.

"So I started collecting the sleeves and now I've put them into a book with a little essay alongside each."

Mr Hall set up his Crowdfunder two weeks ago and is almost halfway to his £1,050 target.

The minimum donation amount is £5 and for that, you receive a copy of the book and acknowledgement of your contribution inside it.

Income from sales will contribute to matched funding for John and his organisation Artspace, which delivers education and community-based arts projects in Cumbria.

At first, he was just going around charity shops and seeing what he could find - but as word got around, people started sending them to him.

Working with an Ulverston-based animator, he's also produced some short videos to accompany some of the sleeves. Some of that collaborative work can be seen on the Crowdfunder online.

He finished with some call-outs.

"I'd like to thank Brian from Pepperland Collect in Barrow. His shop is fantastic and there's all sorts in there.

"And I'd like to thank Moira Barr - the woman whose sleeve collage started this all off.

"The book is dedicated to her, even though I've never met her.

"It'd be brilliant to find her if she's still in the Furness area."

You can contribute at his Crowdfunder, entitled: 'Help produce my pop culture book "I'll Be There".'
