Barrow Market Hall has been recognised as one of the top 20 Great British Market Awards (GBMA) ran by The National Association of Britain Markets.

The GBMA are a public vote that is open until Monday, December 13, but organisers published the list of halls that are currently in the top 20 of votes cast so far.

Admin assistant at Barrow Market Hall, Jacqui Armstrong said she was delighted when she heard the news.

She said: “It’s fantastic news that barrow market hall has made it to this weeks current top 20 in NABMA’s Britain’s favourite market 2022!

“I am ecstatic and I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has voted for us online so far.

“It’s been such a tough year for our traders and this has given us all a huge boost to our morale.

“We’re determined to keep positive and we’re looking forward to serving out local community throughout the festive season.”

The top six markets at the end of the voting process, then go on to a mystery shopper and judging round, with the winner being named Britain’s Favourite Market at an event in early Feb 2022.

Barrow market trader Wendy Gunning, who run’s three stalls in the market said: “– I think it’s great we are in the top 20 again, a little boost for all businesses working so hard to survive in these uncertain times.

“It would be great to win again but the greatest win would be more local people coming in to support local businesses. That’s all the traders ask, take a fresh look if you haven’t been in for a while we have some brilliant businesses.

Barrow market hall is one of the largest indoor markets in Cumbria and Jacqui is urging the community to get behind them and vote.

She said: “Please keep voting for barrow in Furness indoor market, you can place a vote every day.

“This year we are in it to win the prestigious title of Britain’s favourite market of 2022.”
