A DAY to celebrate Barrow's high street has been announced by a business board.

'Shop Barrow Day 2021' will take place on December 4, National Small Business Saturday, and a range of entertainment will be on offer throughout the day.

A Christmas market will be opened and live music and street entertainers will be performing.

The Christmas Market is being run in partnership with Barrow BID and Barra Culture, with sponsorship from BAE Systems.

Paul Hodgson, Chairman of Barrow BID, said: "After all the challenges businesses have faced over the last two years it is more important than ever to shop local.

"Barrow has a huge variety of shops to get that special gift for a loved one, that must have toy for the kids, as well as so many great cafes, restaurants and pubs for you to stop off and enjoy your Christmas shopping experience.

"With all the supply chain issues businesses are facing this year, particularly some of the larger online retailers, do you really want to risk sitting at home only for that important present not to arrive, when instead you could visit your town centre and support your local businesses?

"Shop local, Shop Barrow!"

There will be several food and drink vendors offering a selection of local produce: gifting; Christmas Decorations; Christmas Trees and many other products. All traders, wherever possible, will be local traders from the borough or the surrounding area. The market will be heavily themed with benches, heaters and lots of Christmas lights to get you in the mood!

There also be lots of entertainment going on throughout the day. So far, the confirmed events are:

Ulverston Town Band

Bread & Butter Theatre Company

Astral Circus

Sam Stephens (DJ)

Axe Throwing

Giant Snow Globe - where you can meet Santa

Snow Machine

However, the BID stress that this is not a finalised list, and they are in contact with other vendors.

All Council-owned town centre car parks will be free on the day to encourage as many people as possible to make the journey.
