TOP South Cumbrian restaurants have been recognised in the latest edition of a quality restaurant guide.

The AA Restaurant Guide 2022 has been released, praising restaurants across the country. The guide provides information to prospective customers looking where to eat out in any given location.

Many restaurants have been given a place on the list that awards establishments a number of rosettes, rating from 5 to 1.

In Barrow: The Abbey House Hotel & Gardens earned a rosette.

The guide states: "There's nothing stuffy about the place, with a relaxed (but professional) approach all round. The kitchen turns out modern dishes based on good regional produce."

In Ambleside: The Lake Road Kitchen; The Old Stamp House; and Rothay Manor Hotel all took three rosettes.

Jamie Shail, of Rothay Manor, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have maintained our three rosette status for the third year running.

"The team have worked above and beyond to ensure the same high standards night after night, and are proud that their hard work has paid off.

"The hospitality industry has really suffered through Covid and Brexit with staff, supply and cost issues, so it is lovely to receive this accolade despite all of the difficulties."

James Cross, of Lake Road Kitchen, said: "Any recognition is always lovely.

We just come to work and do our jobs and if guides choose to recognise that then that’s great for us."

In Windermere and Bowness: Belsfield Restaurant; The Ryebeck; Briery Wood Country House Hotel; Cragwood Country House Hotel; Gilpin Spice; Henrock; Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel; HRiSHi at Gilpin Hotel & Lake House; Langdale Chase; Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel & Restaurant; Merewood Country House Hotel; Porto; The Samling; The Wild Boar Inn, Grill & Smokehouse and Storrs Hall Hotel.

Hrishikesh, executive chef at Gilpin Hotel and Lake House, said: "To be recognised professionally is always a huge compliment, something we all strive for but to maintain what we have achieved is a massive team effort and without a good team it is not possible to maintain the standards.

"To make a good team is also a mammoth task which can only be achieved by good direction, lots of patience, sacrifice, support, hard work and the will to withstand the pressures of day to day business.

"So overall, maintaining the standards and professional achievement complement each other. "

There were plenty of other recipients from across South Lakeland listed in the AA Restaurant Guide 2022.
