WORKINGTON MP Mark Jenkinson visited Workington Royal Mail Delivery Office to find out how postmen and women have been delivering parcels and letters throughout the pandemic.

Mark also wished to say “Thank you” to all postmen and women working across the area for keeping communities connected and businesses trading.

Mark Jenkinson MP said: “Postmen and postwomen perform an incredibly important role in our communities across my constituency even more so during the current pandemic.

“I wanted to get a real understanding of the work that goes into delivering the mail on a daily basis. There can be no better way of getting that insight than actually going out and doing the job alongside a postman or woman.

“I joined local Postie Craig Ivison, on his Workington town centre route, and he gave me a real insight into the challenges he and his colleagues faced over the past eighteen months.”

Mark also saw how rises in online shopping had added to post workers rounds.

Nathan Murphy, Royal Mail Delivery Line Manager at Workington Delivery Office, told Mr Jenkinson about the challenges his team faced during the pandemic

Nathan said: “We’re delighted that Mark Jenkinson MP took the time to experience the everyday challenges faced by our postmen and postwomen especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

"They are so often at the heart of their communities and have ensured communities have remained connected and businesses have continued to trade”
