A FORMER town centre bar could find a new lease of life.

A prospective licensee has put forward an application to sell alcohol at The Knights in Barrow, while live entertainment and sporting events are being planned.

The venue was recently refurbished and put up for sale at auction with a guide price of £140,000, with the upper floors advertised for use as housing and office space.

A public notice released by Barrow Council said a new licensee has put forward an application.

It lists Charlotte Huitson, who also runs The Royal Hotel in Barrow Island as the new boss.

It said: “Charlotte Huitson has applied to Barrow Borough Council for a Premises Licence for The Knights Pub, 2-4 Dalkeith St Barrow-in-Furness LA14 1SP to allow the sale/ supply of alcohol and to allow the holding of regulated entertainment to include: music, singing, dancing, live performers, playing if recorded sound, sporting/game competitions in the presence of an audience (including but not limited to, darts and pool/snooker etc), other forms of live dance, showing of a film, performance of a play; and/or late night refreshment - between the following hours: Monday-Sunday 12pm till 2am.”

Dave Stubbins, chair of Furness CAMRA, is pleased with the application and hopes to see the pub reopen.

He said: "We welcome the pub's revival. Anything that brings the culture and sociability back to the area must be great.

"I think more pubs is a fantastic idea, I really support the opening up of them.

"We have been through a rough time during the pandemic and hopefully the pub can adapt and people enjoy themselves there."
