THE Government released a list of 191 companies in the UK that failed to pay their staff minimum wage.

One of the companies on that list was Whoop Hall, Kirkby Lonsdale. The Government have named the companies as they are breaking the national minimum wage law that sets the minimum hourly rate businesses are required by law to pay employees.

The investigation by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) found that a total of £2.1 million was owed to over 34,000 workers across the UK.

The breaches took place between 2011 and 2018. Employers who have been named have since been made to pay back what they owed its staff and were fined an additional £3.2 million by the Government.

Business Minister, Paul Scully, said: "Our minimum wage laws are there to ensure a fair day's work gets fair day's pay - it is unacceptable for any company to come up short.

"All employers, including those on this list, need to pay workers properly.

"This government will continue to protect workers' righst vigilantly, and employers that short-change workers won't get let off lightly."

We reached out to Whoop Hall but they declined to comment.
