BARROW Raiders are due to hold their own Oktoberfest soon with tickets due to go on sale tomorrow.

The Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium will see Oom-pah bands, German food stalls, as well as the traditional German beer come October and the staff are hopeful to see it become a more regular fixture of the year if this one proves popular.

Steve Neale, chairman of Barrow Raiders, said: "We have booked bands and some extra marquees so we will have three in total, two more than our permanent marquee.

"It could be a bit wetter because we are in October but we have flooring so nobody will be stepping through mud and entertainment will be on throughout the day.

"We will have beers, German bands, and hopefully it will have a similar look to the one in Munich.

"I think it will be a good opportunity for people to dress up and have a great day out.

"There is a lot of people that go to Ulverston for all their festivals like the Dickensian for example, and I do not think we have got one like this in Barrow so hopefully we can bring that.

"It could potentially be bigger in future with rides and other things like the one in Munich has but I hope it will put Barrow on the map and bring people from outside the town in and help boost the local economy at the same time."

He went on to say how going to the event in Bavaria was an inspiration to this event and hopes to replicate the success in Barrow for all those that would like to go, but cannot due to the Covid-19 restrictions currently in place for travelling abroad and the fact it has been cancelled in Munich.

After the cancellation of the Wiesn in 2020, the world's largest folk festival cannot take place in 2021 either. Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder and Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter announced the news at a joint press conference in Munich on May 3, 2021.

However, Barrow's Oktoberfest will be going ahead on October 15, 16, and 17 and the tickets go on sale for this 'not to miss event' tomorrow.

It is just £3 a ticket per day.
