A CARLISLE restaurant has today been shortlisted as one of the top ten in the country.

The British Kebab Awards 2021 takes place in October and awards restaurants for the best kebab regionally, as well as national categories for the best Greek and Lebanese restaurants.

Alexandros Greek Restaurant and Deli on Warwick Street, Carlisle, is competing for the title of best Greek restaurant.

It will come as welcome news for the restaurant, which recently had to unexpectedly shut for ten days.

Judges include James O'Brien, MPs from around the country and industry leaders in food and drink, such as Samson Sohail from Cobra beer and Mazlum Demir, owner of a London fine dining restaurant.

Alexandros is up against restaurants from London, Preston, Shropshire, Chesterfield and St Albans.

Finalists from across the UK have a chance to win one of 18 prestigious awards at the ceremony which takes place at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge Hotel, on 26 October.

There are currently around 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK, supporting around 200,000 jobs. The kebab industry is one of the most inclusive food sectors in the UK, with many employees of Kurdish, Turkish, Greek, Lebanese, Armenian and other backgrounds.
