A number of retail units in Workington will be turned into housing if plans gain council approval.

In plans submitted to Allerdale Borough Council, the applicant outlined a vision for the first and second floor space will be separated from the ground floor retail unit and converted to create a 2 bed flat with its own access at the rear of the property at a row in the town.

Specifically, the owner asserted: "[I seek] to convert the first floor and second floor space located above the commercial / retail space at 9-15 South William Street to create a 2 bed room flat / studio."

The property currently has commercial / retail space on the ground floor level. The ground floor retail space uses the ground floor of 4 terraced properties with only the first and second floor of the end terrace belonging to the property.

The first floor and second floor are predominantly unused but has been used for storage.

The proposal uses currently vacant space by putting it to better economical use, without the addition of any additional floor space.
