AN estate dating back to the 13th century has been brought to market for the first time in over 100 years.

Grade II listed Shield Hall, near Slaley, is up for sale with a guide price of £2.25 million.

The estate is being sold complete with walled gardens, grounds and a lake, productive meadow, parkland and wooded areas, three cottages, a peel tower and extensive traditional outbuildings, totalling around 100 acres.

It has been brought to market by Savills.

Will Douglas, of the Savills rural agency team, said: “The sale of Shield Hall presents an incredibly rare opportunity to purchase an excellent example of a private estate, the origins of which can be traced back to the 13th century peel tower which is still standing today.

“Rich in history, Shield Hall has been extended and amended to create what is a beautiful home with some outstanding features, grounds and gardens.

"The hall itself, which dates back to the 18th century, sits secluded in the centre of the estate overlooking the lake and grounds, which makes for a very private position with breath-taking views from all angles.

“Once on the ring fenced estate, which is approached by a private drive lined with rhododendrons, trees and mature shrubs, it is very easy to forget that you are only 40 minutes from Newcastle.

"It is a private and hidden haven which really does offer the best of both worlds”, adds Will.
