A KIND-HEARTED mum has bravely shaved her head to help fund a headstone for her niece that sadly died.

Beth Logan, from Barrow, is honouring the memory of her niece Lilah who died in March after suffering a serious birth defect.

Miss Logan's sister Nikki had her world turned upside down when medics revealed at her 12-week scan that her unborn child had anencephaly, a serious birth defect where a baby is born without parts of the brain and skull.

When Nikki found out she was pregnant earlier this year, she began saving up but never expected the tragic expense of paying for a funeral and headstone.

Determined on helping however she could, her sister decided to shave her head in a bid to help fundraise towards costs.

The 21-year-old said: "I obviously saw how much my sister was struggling after losing Lilah which was horrible to see.

"I didn't know how I could help. I thought about doing a sponsored run then came up with the idea of shaving my head.

"I thought my hair could help other little girls who need it as well as raise money for a headstone for Lilah.

"I wasn't bothered about my hair - I knew this was more important and it would just grow back.

"I can get my hair back but my sister will never get her daughter back."

Miss Logan said she felt 'really emotional' when she saw herself for the first time bald.

"I felt really happy and emotional - it felt invigorating," she said.

"Lilah would've been my niece who I would've treated and I'm not able to do that now so I just want to help my sister in other ways."

The family has already raised more than £600 towards their £1,000 target for the headstone.

"It would just be amazing if we raised enough," Miss Logan said.

"It would mean the world to us all."
