Readers have been discussing whether they will continue social distancing next month if the one-metre rule is scrapped.

There is a “good chance” the one-metre-plus rule for social distancing can be ditched next month, Boris Johnson has said.

The final decision on whether the change can be brought in from June 21 will depend on the data, the Prime Minister added.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock, meanwhile, expressed certainty over a “great British summer” ahead as he confirmed that a total of 50 million Covid-19 jabs have been given out across the UK.

It comes as the Government said one further person had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 127,539.

Readers were asked what they thought about the change.

Karen Richardson said: “It’s far, far too early to be coming with all this.”

Jonathan Bridgewood disagreed, saying: “Great stuff.”

While Jordan Jameson wrote: “They can scrap it all they want – I’ll still be social distancing and asking others to from me, if they get too close.

“I for one don’t want to catch or spread this virus.”

Angela Ireland posted: “Let people make their own decisions.

“I am sure most will still be extremely careful, as they are now, and the others will just be doing what they already have been during lockdown.”

Victoria McKenna said: “Not going to happen. Even if it did I will still be keeping my distance from people and asking others to do so if they come too close to me.

“The virus is still here and I for one don’t want to catch it or spread it.

“We all want our lives back to ‘normal’ but we still need to be sensible to avoid more lockdowns and a surge in cases.”

Heidi Hilland added: “It never started for some people – stretching over the top of you to reach for things instead of waiting until people got what they needed and moved.”
