POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a suspected hate-crime.

A man and woman were assaulted by another man on April 16 in the Windmill Lane area of Cockermouth.

The pair were approached by another man who shouted racial abuse at them before assaulting them.

The man sustained minor injuries, while the woman was left uninjured.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "The man is described as white, around 6ft tall and of slim build. He had brown spiky hair, a beard and was missing a front tooth. He was wearing a black hoodie and blue Adidas tracksuit bottoms at the time of incident.

"Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the Premier Store, who may have witnessed the incident."

Anyone with any information, or who may have witnessed the attack, is encouraged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 226 of 16th April. Alternatively, the public are able to call the independent charity Crimestoppers, and remain completely anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
