The hygiene rating for a supermarket branch in a Copeland town has been revealed.

The Tesco Superstore in Millom’s Lancashire Road was awarded a hygiene rating of five out of five by inspectors.

It was considered to be ‘very good’ in two areas and ‘good’ in another.

The inspection was carried out on February 4 of this year.

The full breakdown of the inspection results was as follows:

• Hygienic food handling (very good) – hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage.

• Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (good) – cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand-washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.

• Management of food safety (very good) – system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.

In England, display of a sticker showing a rating is voluntary. The ratings scheme is carried out in partnership with local authorities.
