A CARLISLE cosmetic clinic has taken delivery of the region’s first Emsella chair - a revolutionary treatment that strengthens pelvic floor muscles.

VL Aesthetics, on Kingmoor Road in Carlisle, has invested in the cutting-edge technology that is used to treat incontinence in both women and men.

It is the first clinic in Cumbria to offer the treatment, which has previously only been available in major cities such as London, Edinburgh and Manchester.

According to the NHS, one in three women over 35 are suffering with bladder weakness, often caused by a weak pelvic floor that can be a result of pregnancy.

By sitting on the Emsella chair for 28 minutes - fully clothed and supervised by a clinical nurse - it emits electro-magnetic energy that stimulates your pelvic floor muscles to contract 11,000 times per session, which is impossible to replicate through traditional exercise alone.

With two sessions per week for three consecutive weeks (six sessions overall), pelvic floor muscles will strengthen enough to considerably reduce the risk of bladder weakness and leaking - often fixing the problem completely.

Studies have shown that 95 per cent of patients experience a noticeable improvement in their symptoms after a course of treatment.

Vanessa Brown, owner of VL Aesthetics, said: “Incontinence, whether it’s through age, childbirth, menopause or lifestyle, can affect anyone, especially women post-pregnancy."
