Staff at a budget supermarket are currently self-isolating as per government guidelines.

Fifteen staff at the Aldi store on Preston Street, Whitehaven, are self-isolating after a number of staff are believed to have tested positive for coronavirus.

The store is now being deep cleaned and extra measures put in place to make sure the store is safe.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “A total of 15 colleagues at our Whitehaven store are currently self-isolating as per the government guidelines.

"The store is being deep cleaned and we have measures in place to ensure everyone’s safety including additional cleaning in high traffic areas, Perspex screens at checkouts and sanitisation stations for customers.”

The operation of the store has not been affected.

Copeland Council have also been made aware of the situation and are looking into it.

A spokesman for Copeland Council said: “We are currently speaking with the management of Aldi in Whitehaven to establish the facts following information received in relation to Covid-19.”
