A CARLISLE dog day care business is set to be on the move, after plans were approved to allow its relocation.

Bark in the Park, which provides dog walking, dog day care and other services, has been granted permission to convert a former vehicle repair shop on the Willowholme Industrial Estate into a dog day care facility.

The former repair centre, Site 21 of the Carlisle industrial estate was most recently used for telecommunications utilities, but has been vacant for more than a year.

Bark in the Park is currently based at Unit 1, Millrace Road on the Willowholme Industrial Estate, and has been operating there for the past three years.

Recommending the application to be approved, Carlisle City Council's planning office concluded that it would provide a "complimentary facility" to the surrounding area, given that it provides day care services for dog owners living or working nearby.

The approval has been granted with a planning condition, to "further safeguard the amenity of the area", restricting the presence of dogs or any other animals on the premises only between the hours of 8am and 7pm each day, and that no animals are to be on the premises outside of these times.

Kelly Latuskie, who runs Bark in the Park, explains on her website that she trained as a veterinary nurse, which is where she "learned a true understanding of dogs".

She added that she is currently the owner of 17 dogs, and that she feels that "these furry creatures have left a firm imprint on my heart".
