While many felt that the world had seen enough change throughout 2020, one popular bar decided to stay afloat by switching things up – to the delight of everyone in town.

Club 135 quickly become renowned for its quirky cocktails and home-made pizzas, after owners Danielle Lee and Mark Johnson introduced the range in November 2019.

The bar offers original cocktails including the Elvis Isn’t Dead and 1984, as well as pizzas such as Luciano Hot and Spicy, the traditional Margherita, and so many more.

Co-director Danielle said: “Combining my passion for serving up quirky artisan cocktails and Mark’s newfound love of pizzas we have launched an exciting new venture, which has so far proved to be a hit.

“Mark has learned his craft doing it the proper Italian way, with made-from-scratch dough, and utilising proper local ingredients.”

Danielle, who went to a London Bar School to master the skill of cocktail creation, added: “On our first weekend we had in excess of 90 orders, and this was a massive morale boast for all of us at Club 135.”

And with an endless stream of very happy customers heading to the Whitehaven bar pre-Covid, the duo were determined to keep the success going even during the most challenging of times – launching an app, easy for all to use.

Following similar ideas to Uber Eats and JustEat, Club 135 launched their own software to allow customers order classic pub drinks, unique cocktails and delicious pizzas directly from their phone.

They can then select a delivery time, with their order being dropped off within the hour, in a Covid-safe way.

And the team couldn’t be more delighted – or relieved – with the success, after a report produced by UKHospitality showed that 33,653 licensed premises in Britain were closed at the end of October, which makes up 30 per cent of total licensed premises.

The report also detailed that 43 per cent of outlets that haven’t opened since the March national lockdown will never do so again.

Danielle said: “As we have been unable to open like usual since early this year, we have opted for a new style, which has certainly provided us with a lifeline for the business.

"We don’t know where we would be without the pivot.”

The owners offer delivery on weekends, and are hoping to expand the venture in the New Year. For more details, including how to get your hands on the latest tasty offerings, visit club135.bytable.net/menu.
