DUMFRIES & Galloway Police Division say they've recently received multiple complaints of people being scammed out of their "hard earned money".
Now a spokesman has issued advice to try and prevent it.
He said: "If someone contacts you and you don’t know them, don’t part with your money.
"If a person claiming to be from a bank contacts you get them to confirm your details before you tell them anything and remember you can always hang up and call your bank using the contact number on the back of your bank card.
"Never part with your money on an impulse decision or if someone tries to rush you, never hand out your account details to anyone you don’t know and trust.
"Remember scams come in many forms, phone, email, letter or text.
"Don’t click on links you aren’t expecting and always check the sender of the email by clicking on the “from” tab on emails."
