PLANS to restore a redundant quarry to farming, and for biodiversity, have been given the go-ahead.
Last month Cumbria County Council agreed plans to restore Brocklewath Quarry, Great Corby, for the purposes of “biodiversity enhancement and agricultural land”.
According to the supporting statement: “The conclusions of the ecological report have been that the benign management of the site since extraction of sand and gravel ceased, together with its secluded location, which has resulted in the creation of an area of valuable habitat within the landscape.
“The variety of species, and evidence of their presence, as seen on site on the day of the visit represents only a small proportion of what potentially may be present and making use of and growing on the site at varying times of year.”
