PLANNING permission is being sought for a new horse riding school in Barrow.

Plans were submitted to vary the use of stables off Park Road to allow it to be used for lessons.

According to plans submitted to Barrow Council, the space would allow a competing rider to train as an instructor.

The plans are in the process of consultation.

A supporting statement said: "My daughter who rides and competes with horses is currently studying to be a riding instructor BHS (British Horse Society) Stage 2 and now requires 40+ hours of teaching under the guidance of a BHS Stage 3 instructor to complete qualification of this stage, if possible teaching would be carried out at our stable complex over a period of three to six months. "Once qualified as a BHS horse riding instructor my daughter would be charging for her teaching services and at present condition 3 of the planning approval states not to be used for commercial purposes, if possible this is something we would like to change.

"Having a very good standard of facilities for equine training purposes we think this would be an ideal opportunity for our daughter who regularly competes at The Royal International & Horse of the Year Shows to progress as a professional riding instructor and hopefully to the benefit of the local equine fraternity.

"My daughter would expect to be training between 10 and 12 clients a week Monday to Friday at various times between 9am and 8pm and one of the week end days to allow for school children; majority of teaching will be one to one with the occasional family of two/three."
