A NEW collaboration with a rugby club is helping children fall in love with the sport and get involved in the club.

The wonder woman, Lauren Allan, has spent the last year working with Whitehaven RLFC to create a special package for young fans.

And, finally, she has achieved it.

Over the moon with the take up Miss Allan said: "I have been going to matches and the club since I was three with my dad. At the time the club had a junior fan club, and it was great. I have two boys now and I wanted them to be able to have the same as me.

"It's really important to get children involved as they will be the fans of the future."

Conscious that times are hard for a lot of families they have worked hard to keep the price down while still giving the youngsters an amazing deal.

She said: "They get a season ticket which means they can go to all the home games, there will be lots of competitions where they can win shirts and balls and even the chance to walk on to the pitch with the mascot."

The fan club was launched on Sunday and they've had an overwhelming response. The mum of two said: "I'm really excited so far we have had 30 people sign up and in the next couple of months we're hoping to reach 100.

"We know a lot of people in the community won't be able to afford to become members and we have had memberships donated so we're able to give children a chance to take part.

"One of the first team players has paid for two junior memberships for underprivileged youngsters within our catchment area and the ladies committee and vice presidents' group are offering to do the same.

"We're appealing to any businesses in the area to come forward who might be able to help by providing memberships."
