Popular coach company Hodgson's of Millom has announced that it will be closing down at the end of the year.

Director at Hodgson’s Coaches Ltd, Jeff Hodgson, revealed that the coronavirus pandemic played a part in the decision.

He wrote in a letter: “In light of recent events, I am writing with regret to inform you that Hodgson’s Coaches Ltd has taken the difficult decision to close with effect of December 31, 2020.

“This has not been an easy decision to make.

“But the Covid-19 pandemic has created an impossible economic environment for us to continue.”

The tour agent, located on Millom’s Devonshire Road, has been serving the community for more than six decades.

Continuing his letter, Mr Hodgson highlighted his pride for the business.

He wrote: “We have been proud to operate for over 60 years providing for local people including private hire, school transport, local trips, national and international holidays, particularly in a time where air travel was not so common.”

Mr Hodgson finished his letter by thanking the business’ customers.

He wrote: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your business and support, past and present.”

In response to this, Barrow Raiders have also issued a statement.

The Betfred League 1 club were frequent customers of Hodgson's of Millom and revealed that the business had enabled them to enjoy some very special moments.

The club said: “Barrow Raiders want to take the time to give a huge thank you to Jeff Hodgson and the drivers from Hodgson’s of Millom.

“[They have been our] away travel providers for exactly 20 years and everyone that has been on an away trip has enjoyed fantastic times with their help.

“Memorable trips to Warrington, Castleford, Coventry, Leeds and London have all been made possible by Hodgson’s.

“Not to mention the tens of thousands of pounds that the away trips have made for the club over the last two decades.

“We wish them good luck in what comes next for them.”
