HERE are readers’ picks for the top places for takeaway coffee. Cafés are currently shut to sit-ins, but people can still enjoy a cuppa.

AMID the second national lockdown during the Coronavirus pandemic, sit-in coffee is one of the things people are currently unable to enjoy.

However, many spots in Barrow have remained open to serve takeaway drinks, meaning people do not have to miss out on their favourite cuppas.

Here’s what readers thought some of the best places for a takeaway brew were:

- Abbey Mill Coffee Shop, Abbey Approach.

In an update on its Facebook page on Sunday, a spokesman for the coffee shop said: “2020 brings our Christmas afternoon tea a little different to last year.

“While we are unable to provide our afternoon teas at the cafe, they will be packaged to take away with all the festive favourites.

“These are available on a Saturday and Sunday to pick up from Abbey Mill at a cost of £15 per person.

“We will only be making a certain number each day so if you have a small celebration in December or would like a gift of afternoon tea you may pre-order from today.”

- Smiler’s Cafe on Dalton Road.

Smiler’s Cafe, which serves a range of barista-style coffees and teas, was another favourite.

- Costa Coffee, Dalton Road.

Costa was also highlighted. Reader Trina Gilchrist said: “(They are) the only ones who can make a decent mocha latte, super hot and wet (those who know coffee will know what I mean).”

- Ma’s Kitchen on Dalton Road.

Ma’s Kitchen also came in for praise.

In addition to hot drinks, it serves home-cooked Caribbean, Italian and English food.

In a post made to the business’ Facebook page yesterday, a spokesman for Ma’s Kitchen said: “We are open for takeaway and delivery throughout lockdown!

“Order through the Barrow Eats app or ring us directly on 01229 208020.

“Open Monday-Saturday, 9am-2pm, and Monday, Friday and Saturday, 5-8pm.

“Full Caribbean menu available all day.

“Delicious breakfasts available 9am-2pm every day!

The spokesman said: “Feel free to support your local businesses by sharing our page, giving us a like, or dropping us a review.”
