A GUEST house will not close its doors as plans have been approved to change the use to holiday letting accommodation.

The application for the site in Keswick was submitted to the Lake District Planning Authority.

Plans refer to Fell House in Keswick and it is proposed that the guest house would be changed into a dwelling that would then be used to provide short-term holiday letting accommodation.

The change of use would continue to provide short-term tourism accommodation that will provide continued benefits to the local economy.

The applicant for the plans is Mr Smith with the plans being submitted by the agents PFK Land and Development.

The visibility appraisal report stated: “The application site comprises Fell House, a substantial, three-storey, mid-terraced Victorian property, located close to the centre of Keswick. The property has over the past 25 years or so operated as a bed and breakfast, offering five guest bedrooms.

“The property also benefits from owner’s accommodation, a small self-contained yard and off-street parking.

“The site is not located in an area of known flood risk, and there are no known surface water issues affecting the application site. The application site is not a listed building, there are no listed buildings on Stanger Street.”

A response from Allerdale Council Housing Services Team reads: “As this is a single dwelling application, providing that the proposal meets the requirements of the Housing Provision Supplementary Planning Document, the housing authority has no comment to make.”

Approval has been given on the condition “the dwelling hereby permitted shall only be occupied for the purposes of short-term holiday letting accommodation, and shall not be occupied by any one individual, family or group for a period exceeding eight weeks in any three-month period.”
