THE final details of a plan to bring more than 80 new homes to Barrow have been given the green light.

Barrow Council granted permission for reserved matters on a proposal to build 84 houses on land off Wilkie Road.

Councillors voted in favour of proposals for the layout, scale, appearance and landscaping of the site.

Amended plans to ones originally submitted in 2018 added proposals for access to the site via a road and footpath.

It also put forward designs for the outside render of the homes and the addition of a feature wall at the site entrance.

The homes are due to be built at the former Brady’s Yard, which is currently derelict.

The planning application proposed 84 new dwellings, of which 54 are three bed properties, 16 are two bed, 14 are four bed and four are bungalows.

All the homes will be provided with a minimum of two parking spaces each, with the four bedroom houses benefitting from three spaces.

As well as this, plans have been proposed for two open space areas - one of which is located around the existing pond to the north west of the site, and the other to the south east alongside Wilkie Road.

Each open space is to be overlooked by the properties so as to provide natural surveillance which aids to reduce the potential for anti-social behaviour.

Significant delays have taken place with the application, which was first proposed in 2016, due to the developer having a third party legal issue over the house type plans, however, this has now been resolved, say the plans.

Cumbria County Council had expressed some concern regarding the application previously about the proposed site and its potential flood risk.

The response said: “There are no objections to the proposed development but it should be noted that the proposed development is situated within the potential inundation area for Ormsgill Reservoir.

“This reservoir falls under the Water Framework Directive and has a prepared off site emergency planning.”
