Shoppers have expressed mixed feelings about the opening of a new toy store in Carlisle.

The new store, housed on the former Homebase site in Kingstown Retail Park, was due to open on Wednesday but instead opened yesterday.

The shop aims to cater to all ages, with a range of toys, bikes, video games and baby products.

It will also offer a click-and-collect service throughout the upcoming lockdown.

Many of our readers left their thoughts about the store on the News & Star Facebook page.

Michael Cosham Minstr commented: “Great news.”

Shopper Katie Wade said: “Car park isn’t the best, but the staff were really helpful.”

Similar issues were highlighted by Laura J Thomson, who said: “It’s not bad. Where it’s situated though it’s not ideal. The parking is horrendous.”

Raising concerns about accessibility for pedestrians was Sandra Parker, who posted: “It’s okay if you have a car, but it’s not an ideal place if you don’t.”

Samantha Ann Mallaburn commented: “What a time to open three days before lockdown.”

Kat Mcmahon said: “Drove past this morning the cars on road waiting to go in was horrendous.”

Daniel Harris, manager of the brand new store, previously said he and his team were “delighted” to see the new shop open.

“We are inviting everyone to visit us over the few weeks," he said. "There will be great bargains you won’t want to miss out on so make sure you drop by/"

The store will be open between 9am and 9pm until Wednesday when it will close ahead of the Government’s second lockdown which will come into force at midnight on Thursday.

All non-essential retail, including clothing and electronics stores, vehicle showrooms, travel agents, betting shops, auction houses, tailors, car washes, tobacco and vape shops will all be forced to close.
