Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service is urging families to think twice about firework displays - or at the least to prepare carefully.
Covid-19 and government restrictions on social gatherings means many organised Bonfire Night displays are cancelled, bringing the risk of many bonfires and firework celebrations taking place at home. The rule of six prevents any more than six people gathering in a home or garden.
Between 2014 and 2019 there were more than 1,000 severe burn injuries involving fireworks in England and Wales, with 38 per cent of these in youngsters under 15 and the majority (67 per cent) were sustained by males.
Head of prevention for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service Will Richardson said: “We want everyone to enjoy the bonfire season responsibly and encourage multiple families not to host their own bonfires or events.”
