THE owner of a new car dealership in Dalton has said that business has been steady despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Rob Dixon, the owner of JD motors, said a ‘steady stream’ of customers and well-wishers had visited his new car dealership at Mill Brow since it opened on Monday.

He has operated the business alongside wife Helen since 2009 and took the opportunity to move it to Dalton having previously been stationed in Wilkie Road in Barrow.

The business has now opened in its new home following months of renovation work at the site, formerly used by Mill Brow Car Centre.

Mr Dixon said: “This is about us trying to grow the business and it’s great that we’ve finally got the move.

“We thought it was a great opportunity to take over the Mill Brow site so we took it.

“We’ve been busy so far and we’ve had a great response, everyone’s been full of praise.

“There’s been a steady stream of people.”

Mr Dixon said it was a ‘tough time’ for the business being closed during lockdown but that trade had remained steady in the pandemic.

“It’s an unusual time for the industry,” he said.

“But coming out the other side sales have been steady.”

The Dixons run the business with two full time members of staff, one in sales and one mechanic.

They also run competitions to win cars, motorbikes and electronics under the banner JD Comps.

Mr Dixon said he was keen to be involved in the Dalton community going forward.
