A NEW College staff member has tested positive for coronavirus.

It has been revealed the employee received the result yesterday.

The college Walcot said in an email to students – seen by the Adver - it will remain open and those who have classes will attend as normal.

It said: “We have been advised that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 affecting a staff member on the Queens Drive campus at New College Swindon.”

It’s working with Swindon Borough Council and Public Health England as they monitor the situation.

There is signage, one way systems, allocated entrances, hand sanitisers and rules to wear face masks in corridors to keep staff and students safe.

Swindon Borough Council confirmed the news and said safety measures have taken place.

A borough council spokesman said: “The council’s public health team and colleagues from Public Health England met with representatives of New College yesterday following reports of a single staff member testing positive for Covid-19.

“We would like to reassure parents and carers that no close contact of the staff member have been identified and the college has ensured stringent procedures are in place to safeguard the safety of students and staff.”

New College has been contacted by the Swindon Advertiser for comment.
