A CUMBRIAN home shopping giant is on a recruitment drive to fill over 60 seasonal vacancies.

Lakeland, in Windermere, is searching for people from across the county to work at its contact centre in Windermere.

The business is working with career management organisation Inspira to help prospective employees get ready for work so they can start as soon as possible.

The employment programme will be delivered online but people who want to can also do the course face-to-face at Inspira's centre in Dalton Road, Barrow.

“We are really excited to help Lakeland Plastics, especially as there is so much unemployment in the county,” said Mark Bowman chief executive of Inspira.

“These are roles which are available now, and with help from Inspira, we can get people upskilled and ready to work within a week.”

The employability programme officially starts on Monday but enrolment will be this Friday to ensure participants have login details and a mapped-out course plan for the following week.

“The week long course will consist of ‘live’ classroom teaching during the week mornings and independent learning in the afternoon,” said course leader Karen Whitehouse from Inspira.

“Our aim is to help people understand the recruitment process and roles available with Lakeland, learning about customer service, help with updating CVs, completing the application, and preparing for telephone interviews. The course is free and available to anyone, who if successful can travel to Windermere to work. It is a great opportunity and I am sure it could really help people who are looking for work in the lead up to Christmas."
