A JOINED-up plan for Green energy is needed for Cumbria, according to EDF’s nuclear development manager.

Julia Pike, from the energy company gave her opinion to the Copeland Mayor Mike Starkie along with the area’s MP Trudy Harrison during an online forum.

The EDF boss said: “All this investment in the skilling of apprentices will be wasted if we don’t get the big projects underway soon.”

She said the electrical grid needed to get bigger to justify the level of money needed for big new nuclear builds.

She added a common approach to the electrical grid needs to come from all three green industries of tidal, wind and nuclear to achieve that return on the investment.

The Copeland MP reiterated her support for the Moorside project for large and small-scale nuclear projects, with Mr Starkie admitting he feels the time is getting closer to do this.
