The first coronavirus death in over four weeks has been recorded at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust, the latest figures show.

NHS England figures show 170 people had died in hospital at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Tuesday (August 11).

The trust runs Furness General Hospital, Westmorland General Hospital, and Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The person died on Monday.

That was an increase of one compared to the 169 that had been recorded at the same point on Monday, and the first death in 32 days.

The victim was among 4,855 deaths recorded across the North West, which is the third-worst affected of England's seven NHS regions after London and the midlands.

Of 28 trusts within the region, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay trust has the 16th-highest death toll.

Meanwhile, 14 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across five of the six regions in Cumbria - with only Barrow having ow new cases. Seven of the new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the Carlisle region, four in Copeland and single cases in Allerdale, Eden, and South Lakeland.
