A CHURCH warden is among a select group of people to receive a special honour from the Queen.
Matt Clark, 79, of St John's Church in Barrow Island, is among 94 men and 94 women to have received the Queen's Maundy Money.
Every year, on Maundy Thursday Her Majesty usually distributes the special Maundy coins to men and women aged 70 and over in a ceremony to mark their Christian service.
The coronavirus pandemic meant this year's service was cancelled but Mr Clark received the coins in the post.
The church warden of six years, who lives in Andover Street, was nominated for the honour for his work in the church as well as hosting tea parties for the Barrow Island.
He first learned of the honour in a letter from the Queen.
"I thought it was a scam," he said.
