A 19-YEAR-OLD was “remarkably lucky” after being rescued by ambulance and mountain rescue teams following a fall.

The incident happened on Saturday at Shepherd’s Crag, Borrowdale - 16 members of Keswick Mountain Rescue received the call-out around 4.04pm. An air and land ambulance also attended.

The male climber fell eight metres and banged his head.

It took nearly two hours to bring him to safety.

A spokesman for the mountain rescue said: “Unfortunately he hit the ground and was in and out of consciousness.

“The team packaged the man in a vacuum mattress and stretchered him to a road ambulance which then took him to the Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary.

“24 hours later we got news he’d been discharged from hospital with just bruises to his shoulder and a cut to the head, he was remarkably lucky.

“He gave us permission to share the photo of his helmet - it may have saved his life.”
