THESE are the first pictures unveiling Cumbria’s first outdoor aqua park - and it's set to open this summer.

The adrenaline-inducing site includes a series of inflatable slides and climbing frames moored out in 200-acres of freshwater at Haverigg.

It's hoped, after a year of preparation and planning, that it could provide a welcome financial boost in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

The inflatable course is owned by Port Haverigg Watersports, who also run boat waterskiing, wakeboard, kneeboard, wakeskating, ringo and banana rides on the lake.

Co-owner of Port Haverigg Watersports Nicola Cuthbert said the installed course had ‘surpassed her expectations’.

She said: “It looks absolutely fantastic. It’s surpassed all my expectations.”

Mrs Cuthbert has been visiting Haverigg for watersports since she was a toddler, praising it as an ‘amazing place’.

“Haverigg has been a part of my life for the past 36 years," she said. "

"It’s an amazing place which is close to my heart.

“We’re hoping the new aqua park will bring people into Haverigg and boost the area.”

A group of lucky testers tried out the new inflatables at the weekend and gave hugely positive feedback.

Charlotte Cairns, 28, was one of the first to test out the Aqua Park.

She said: “To be able to bounce and splash your way around the obstacle course with your friends, surrounded by beautiful scenery and the back drop of Black Combe is fantastic. It's such a great asset for Haverigg.”

Mrs Cuthbert said: “Everyone that has tried and tested it has been astounded. It was so nice to see everyone’s happy and smiling faces - there was such a buzz about.”

“The weather is getting warmer and people are looking to get out the house and do something new. It’s something exciting and different.”

The aqua park is scheduled to be open this summer.
