A further seven people have died at Cumbria's hospital trusts over the past two days after testing positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).

Four people lost their lives to Covid-19 at hospitals run by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust during the same time.

The trust runs the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and Whitehaven's West Cumberland Hospital.

Three people died at hospitals run by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust between Wednesday March 25 and Thursday March 26.

The trust runs Furness General Hospital, in Barrow, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal, and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Today saw the biggest rise in recorded deaths yet for England and other parts of the UK.

In a statement this afternoon, NHS England said: "A further 168 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 689.

"Patients were aged between 29 and 98 years old and all but four patients (aged between 82 and 91 years old) had underlying health conditions.

"Their families have been informed."

The overall UK death toll has now hit 759, representing a daily increase of 181.
