The organisers of one of Cumbria’s biggest community events have revealed a new date after it was postponed over coronavirus fears.

Thousands of runners and walkers will now take on the Keswick to Barrow and Coniston to Barrow in September.

The charity event, which was cancelled last week after the Covid-19 outbreak, was due to take place on May 2.

Now organisers have picked the new date in September 26 for the epic walk which draws in crowds of people to raise money for good causes.

The organising committee said the event had to go ahead, even if it was put back.

John McIntosh, a K2B director said: “At the same meeting where we made the decision we were able to come up with a shortlist of dates and this was the one that ticked all the boxes.

“It’s shame it isn’t happening on the historic weekend but it’s important the event goes ahead, so to get it in the calendar is amazing.

“The main thing is now we have the new date I will ask that the community rallies round the event, as it always does.”
