If you’ve ever felt that your average cuppa as lacking in something, you might need to visit this unique – and very bubbly – café.

Cumbria’s first bubble tea café has officially opened, with owner Thomas Cheung being met with endless support and plenty of tea to make.

Déjà Brew, at Cleator Moor, was set up by the Egremont entrepreneur, and combines Britain’s love of all-things-tea with a quirky Taiwanese twist of adding pearls of tastiness to the drink.

The 24-year-old brew-lover also owns Y-tea of the Lake District, and decided to follow the route of bubble tea after spotting a gap in the market.

“I created Déjà Brew because I wanted to offer something different and unique”, Thomas said.

“The café has been busy since day one and the support we have received has been phenomenal!”

Since Thomas’s pre-opening with family and friends and a very hectic opening day, the cosy café owner is delighted to say he and his team haven’t had a break, with customers running in non-stop to grab their first taste of a bubble-filled cuppa.

And with other caring Cumbrian businesses offering their support and advice, including learning how to make great coffee from Bruce and Luke’s Coffee and Donuts, Thomas is feeling good about his latest venture.

He said: “I am very grateful for all the support and I am looking forward to the future of Déjà Brew.

“I must also say a big thank you to my cousin Susan who has many years of experience in the bubble tea industry in Hong Kong, and has kindly come over to help me.”

The ambitious businessman is also doing his bit to support others, promoting surrounding independent companies such as Blessing’s Bakery, whose red velvet cake has gone down a storm, and Lakeland Mues.

And on top of supporting his fellow small businesses, Thomas plans to ensure Déjà Brew provides a green, environmentally-friendly service – while still offering a unique and fabulous menu.
