PUPILS across south Cumbria have the chance to pit their wits against other schools in BAE Systems Submarines' 'Top of the Form' competition.

Planning for the 2020 contest is being undertaken by a team of degree apprentices.

It will be their role to plan the questions, rules, venues and equipment.

As well as being a fun experience for the teams involved, the competition aims to highlight the benefits of studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects in an area where BAE Systems Submarines offers hundreds of new job opportunities every year.

Project lead Chloe Wagstaff said: "It's a privilege to be involved with Top of the Form.

"We've already had a huge amount of interest.

"It's great that schools in our local area are prioritising STEM subjects."

Dates and venues for this year's Top of the Form have yet to be formally announced.

Last year, the team from Cartmel School emerged as champions in a final held at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston.

The prize was a Google Home Mini, a £20 Amazon voucher each and £400 for the school.

Similar prizes are planned for this year's event.
