A MAJOR Cumbria logistics firm is opening its doors to the public for the first time to offer training courses.

AW Jenkinson Transport Ltd, which has a training and development centre at the Eden Business Park on Penrith’s Gilwilly Industrial Estate, is now offering fully accredited first aid and health and safety courses to external delegates.

The company has been providing in-house training for its employees for many years but it is now opening its courses to the local community.

Scott Blagg, trainer and assessor, said: “Because of the professional sectors we are involved in, our ‘real world’ expertise is considerable.”

AW.Jenkinson Transport Limited is one of the UK’s largest providers of haulage, distribution and logistics services.

The company was incorporated in 2014, and was previously part of AW Jenkinson Forest Products. The transport firm’s fleet allows the group of businesses to handle nearly four million tonnes of roundwood, woodchips, shavings, bark and other timber products every year.

All the new programmes on offer are accredited by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation.

Scott added: “ Our delegates, and their employers, can be assured of training delivered on the latest equipment in purpose-built facilities by experienced trainers.”

The courses are available to everyone over the age of 18 and include first aid for mental health, basic life support, paediatric emergency first aid and a defibrillation annual refresher. They are delivered in association with Nuco Training.
